My Birthday

Today happens to be my birthday.

Today I turn….noooo… I guess that is not important….so let me skip the age part.

People who know can keep their mouth shut and people who don’t should not even try to guess…after all what is there in age….hahha

As a kid we never celebrated birthdays. My mother told us that in our family celebrating birthdays was not allowed…so nothing happened on our birthdays. And those days we usually abided by what our elders told us without questioning….so still not sure why there was no celebration.

It was my husband who introduced me to the idea of birthday celebration….he just needs a pretext to celebrate and if it is his wife’s birthday ….it is a fairly good reason. He would often buy a gift for himself too on my birthday….amazing man….blessed to have him in my life.

Sometimes I wonder….why do we celebrate birthdays?

When a child is born it is the parents and family who celebrate the birth of the child. I am sure my parents and family must have rejoiced the day I was born.

Blessed to be born to such family and parents…

As we grow we start celebrating our own birth, our own presence on this earth. It is a good idea to celebrate one’s presence on this earth but it makes more sense to celebrate the birthdays of others because without your well-wishers your life would be so empty.

My nephew called me to say that they have ordered lunch and will cut a cake in the evening to celebrate my birthday. It felt good. He even joked…”we are celebrating your birthday and if you are not celebrating yours…that is your problem”.

My aunt sent me a voice mail….she wished me and my uncle was clapping from behind…loved their spirit and was touched by the gesture.

Love my family.

I have had a very blessed childhood, lovely parents, sister, cousins, relatives, best of education, lovely youth time, friends, and truly genuine husband….have enjoyed and lived every moment of my life till date.

This is definitely a reason to celebrate and thank God for giving me a blessed life.

God has been kind to me…but He will call me back one day.

One by one he calls people back…When?

None of us know. He has already called back my father.

The only thing we know is that with every birthday we are closer to His Call.

No, I am not at all getting into the negative mode…I am just trying to remind myself that I need to value every moment and every person in my life.

My sister once said…”Life is a journey and we are all passengers not knowing whose destination will come when; once it comes the person gets off never to be seen again”.

So value your co-passengers.

There were already so many people on this earth when I was sent here so obviously I had some unique purpose which others couldn’t do. It can’t be only to have fun and fulfill our own dreams….it has to be something more.

All of us have dreams and desires…I too have…plenty.

I want to be a great writer…I want to publish my blogs…I want to go on world tour….I want to earn money…I want my husband to convert into health freak…I want him to grow in his career…I want lovely relations around me…I want to be a ‘good memory’ for people when I leave this world…I want to align with positive memories…I want people to like me…I want to read so many books…I want to make my mother happy…I want to re-live the days with my school and college friends…I want to have long chats with my friends…I want to learn music…I want to dance the way these youngsters dance…I want to fit into size 26 jeans…I want to reduce my weight….I want to shop with my sister….I want her to be always smiling…I want a re-union of all my cousins…so on and on…my God…the list is endless….there are so many wants.

Time is limited and desires unlimited.

I guess along with fulfilling my own dreams my purpose here is to help others fulfill theirs; to be happy and make others happy.

Time to get going…not sure I will be given another chance.

Every birthday is a reminder that your time is not out yet….and that is the reason we celebrate…that is the reason we celebrate birthdays of friends and family….our desires and dreams would mean nothing without our own people around.

Birthday is the time to take blessings from elders and good wishes from all around so that you are able to value the life given to you.

Today is my birthday and I want the world to know; so that blessings and wishes come from all sides and my already blessed life gets more blessed.

Will miss the call from my father….though his blessings are with me but we are human and nothing can substitute for his physical presence. I can still hear his voice wishing me birthday and showering blessings.

He would insist on treating me even sitting thousand miles away…birthday dinners used to be on his account.

Time to value physical presence of people around you….you never know who will be there to wish you on your next birthday or whether you will be there to celebrate your next one.

God gave us a wonderful but unpredictable life.

We are all here for limited time and for a purpose.

Need blessings and wishes from all so that I am able to live up to my purpose.

Courtesy Subir’s fb link, i have read your last few blogs. You have a very lucid style of writing, with a high reader connect. This style was espoused by my favourite english teacher at St. Michaels, Rev. Father Cox. Subir will know this… Regards.

My feelings have been already expressed by Mr.Rahul Narayan, so wont repeat it ………. incidentally I have not been able to check my FB for the last few days so all I wanna say ……………… “Belated wishes and that you wished for may come true” and hope that the next one is not missed by me. 🙂

  11. First of all belated wishes to you 🙂
I totally agree with Rahul about your lucid style of writing. Clubbed with a clarity of thoughts it makes for a great reading. This particular like “The only thing we know is that with every birthday we are closer to His Call” echoed my thoughts too. Not many of us give thought to this fact of life.
And yes, each of us is here for a purpose, a higher purpose. Stay blessed 🙂

It would be nice if you could provide your readers with an option where they can follow your posts. And I wonder if you are a member of Indiblogger community. It will boost traffic and give opportunity to many to read your posts/blog.

    Expect more visits from me.
